Polk CERT Sandbagging Class

CERT members braved the cold to come get a morning workout in filling sandbags. It took about 30 minutes to build a 3 ft tall, 10 ft long course of sandbags. This was working at an easy, no urgency pace talking about it as we went. We all decided we could have done it in 15 minutes if we’d put our heads down and tucked into it. We did a 2 ft tall wall first, then said “water’s still rising”, so added a back course, tied it in and went up another foot.

Disaster Preparedness and First Responder Expo

Thank you to all who joined us during the first annual Disaster Preparedness and First Responder Expo in Independence. We gave away over 700 Disaster Kit Prizes in just 4 hours!

The new Polk CERT safety vests have arrived in time for summer 2018 deployments. They’re much lighter and cooler than our previous ones, and the adjustable sides will make them more comfortable, too.
